FORT MYERS, Fla. (May 22, 2020) -- On Friday, May 29, Edison and Ford Winter Estates will open the botanical gardens and the riverside of the property. This area features the historic winter homes of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, the guest home, study, swimming pool complex, and the award-winning Moonlight Garden. The riverside will be open Friday through Monday each week, through June. The museum and laboratory will remain closed at this time.

”The plants and trees have been blooming like crazy and are just waiting for visitors to come see them,” said Debbie Hughes, Horticulture Director. “The gardens feature hundreds of plants and trees form all around the world.”

The site includes more than 20 acres of gardens in a park-like setting with large shade trees and a scenic river view. Visitors will be able to use their personal phones to take the Self-Guided Tour with narration and meander at their own pace. To ensure social distancing, guided tours are not being offered at this time.

Discounted admission tickets are available for visitors and member’s guests: adults, $15; teens, $10; children, $5; children 5 years old and younger will be admitted free. No coupons or other discounts will be accepted. Members get in free. Visitors are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance online at EdisonFord.org.

The outdoor Garden Shoppe and the Museum Store are also open. The number of visitors entering the indoor retail areas will be monitored to ensure enough space for social distancing. The Garden Shoppe offers unique and hard-to-find plants, shrubs and trees, herbs, succulents, fruit trees, and Florida natives. Garden staff will be on site to answer gardening questions. Members receive a 10 percent discount on all garden and gift items (excludes tickets).

The Museum Store is stocked with unique gift items and souvenirs, including books, clothing, kitchenware, kid’s games and science kits, artwork from local artists, and garden art. There are also many Thomas Edison and Henry Ford signature Edison and Ford Winter Estates Edison and Ford Winter Estates is the internationally known winter home site of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford. More than 220,000 visitors walk through the location each year from all around the globe. The organization has received many awards, including the National Stewardship Award from the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the National Garden Clubs’ Historic Preservation Award. The property is an official project of “Save America’s Treasures," a Florida Historic Landmark and a National Register Historic Site. The Edison Botanic Laboratory is a National Historic Chemical Landmark. The site is open every day except Thanksgiving and Christmas from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and until 9 p.m. during the month of December for Holiday Nights.
