PASCO COUNTY, FL (Jan. 26, 2021) - Get ready to enjoy a new way to experience Florida’s Sports Coast with an exclusive beer brewed just for the destination by Escape Brewing Company.
The partnership between Florida’s Sports Coast and Escape Brewing Co. was born out of the destination’s desire to diversify its marketing efforts by finding a unique way to further promote the brand’s sports-centered identity.
“Our brands really aligned”, said Tourism Director, Adam Thomas. “Florida’s Sports Coast is all about getting back to adventure, as our recovery campaign states, while Escape’s name comes from wanting to escape from reality.”
Escape Brewing Co. was founded by best friends and now brother-in-laws, Matt Thompson and John McGregor. “John and I had always wanted to work together,” Thompson said. “We created the Escape brand out of the desire to escape from corporate life,” added McGregor. “And this brewery has allowed us to do just that.”
The Sports Coast pilsner is a light, crisp beer with notes of citrus that is best enjoyed responsibly. “It’s like sunshine in a can,” said McGregor. “Through this beer, Matt and John have created the perfect sensory translation of who we are as a destination,” said Thomas.
The artwork for the can was done by local Pasco artist, Veronica Steiner, the lead designer for the brewery. “It was important we created a cohesive look that perfectly blended both brands into one design,” stated Thomas. The image, now present on the can, was inspired by the abundant outdoor adventures that can be had on Florida’s Sports Coast--like kayaking, scalloping and inshore fishing as well as capturing the stilt houses that make the destination’s coastline so iconic.
Currently, the beer is available at select Sports Coast partners- Widow Fletcher’s, Ordinance One, Top Shelf, The Stadium, Hilton Garden Inn Tampa Suncoast and Escape Brewing Co.
“Our hope is to continue to brew the Sports Coast pilsner to provide residents and visitors alike with a unique way to enjoy Florida’s Sports Coast,” said Thomas. “Plus, what goes better with sports than beer?”

Get ready to #EscapetoAdventure with a special destination giveaway to Florida’s Sports Coast. To promote the partnership, Florida’s Sports Coast is giving away the chance to “live the art” with a weekend stay for two where winners will be able to engage in coastal activities along the Sports Coast. The giveaway will be hosted on Florida’s Sports Coast Facebook page and will run January 25-February 25.
