SEBRING, Fla. (Oct. 5, 2020– Have you ever wanted to meet an Olympic medalist?  Now is your chance.  The GFNY Florida Sebring cycling event scheduled for Oct. 25 already has several high-profile participants, including an Olympic silver medalist, on the attendee list, which is now nearly 700 cyclists, including youth and adults.   

With less than 20 days left to register, the GFNY attendee list already includes: 

  • Nelson Vails - Silver medalist in the 1984 Olympics for United States in track cycling, and the first African American to medal in the history of cycling will race on October 25 in Sebring. Join Nelson for pre-race group rides on Friday & Saturday at 9am (10/23 & 10/24) to spin out your legs before the race, as well as at registration & expo.
     
  • Karen Manzano - Mexican TV personality and an 8-time GFNY finisher

“We are thrilled to be the only Florida location and one of only three U.S. locations for GFNY’s cycling marathon,” said Casey Hartt, Visit Sebring’s Lead Marketing Consultant.  “Having a professional event planning company like GFNY bring this caliber of sporting event to our area is very exciting, and we look forward to working with GFNY on future events.”  

GFNY will hold a Kids Race on Saturday, Oct. 24 and the Adult Race on Sunday, Oct. 25 with a 59-mile medium course and an 84-mile long course, both departing and returning to downtown Sebring. 

For anyone who wants to take part in the race action, but is not a cyclist, GFNY is looking for volunteers to help the cyclists get registered for the race, keep the athletes fueled at one of the four aid stations, or at the finish line. For more information, click here

GFNY Florida Sebring is taking a number of precautions to keep GFNY riders, staff and volunteers safe. Measures include social distancing, modifying aspects of the race to prevent congregations of people and avoiding contamination from surfaces.  For more details, click here.  

Gran Fondo New York (GFNY) is a New York-based company that hosts cycling events throughout the world that attract participants from 120 different countries.  The Sebring event will be GFNY’s third event in the United States. The other two U.S. locations include New York & Santa Fe, NM.  A Gran Fondo is a cycling marathon that started in Italy 45 years ago. GFNY has brought this racing format to the U.S. and around the world.
