Guests are welcomed in with new grand entrance, bar

ORLANDO, Fla. (Sept. 16, 2021) – In addition to signing /opening 12 new tenants in 12 months such as Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips and Blake Shelton’s Ole Red, ICON Park has been busy with its own renovation projects.

The Wheelhouse, the center of energy at ICON Park where guests board The Wheel and experience more attractions, great food and drinks, games and fun, is completely remodeled. This started with tearing down the building’s front walls to create a brand-new grand entrance that includes retractable glass panels.

The new design provides perfect synergy between ICON Park’s open-air spaces and the complex’s central building. The minute guests walk through the large doors, their adventure begins.

A key component of The Wheelhouse remodel was the addition of a circular bar in the center of the building. It was designed using custom-colored, handmade encaustic cement tiles to give the bar surface a fun, Florida feel, all while complementing the ICON Park colors surrounding it. The shape of the round bar honors the design of The Wheel – a hint of what is to come. It features blush-colored glass pendants that are handblown, suggesting sea glass, and a brightly-speckled terrazzo countertop adds a touch of retro glam. This mix of texture, color and shape, make The Wheelhouse Bar the perfect spot for a quick drink or leisurely hangout with friends.

As guests walk to the back lot of The Wheelhouse to ride The Wheel, they’ll discover the new Sky Bar. It's a casual spot to pick up a quick drink before boarding your capsule. The bar is covered in ocean blue scallop-shaped cement tiles and accompanied by a brightly-speckled terrazzo countertop. The back bar wall, painted in Flamingo Pink, is decorated with a selection of curated poster-sized vintage travel postcards, a nostalgic wink to Florida tourism over the years.

“When designing these bars, I wanted to create two spaces that represent the exciting, fun experience ICON Park offers its visitors and, at the same time, design them as an homage to Florida,” said designer Petra Hausberger, principal of Somerton Park Interiors.

As part of The Wheelhouse remodel, ICON Park has also added new attractions such as In The Game ICON Park and 7D Motion Theater, a gift shop, retail store and new flooring inside The Wheelhouse.

To optimize all 20 acres of ICON Park’s open-air and walkable spaces, the entertainment complex has expanded the ICON Park Promenade. Thirty new kiosks have been added so guests can enjoy a unique outdoor shopping experience as they stroll along the brick promenade under festoon lights.

“ICON Park’s recent, guest-driven enhancements are making our property the top short-stay destination for locals and tourists in Florida,” said Chris Jaskiewicz, president and CEO of ICON Park. “These investments in money and time show our optimism, and we enjoy seeing how much our guests enjoy the updates.”

The contractor responsible for the recent renovations was Keator Construction and Rick Bowles was the architect. Petra Hausberger with Somerton Park Interiors served as the interior designer, while Ron Hall with 5H Partners was the owner’s rep.

ICON Park is at the center of the Orlando Entertainment District. With free parking and conveniently located near I-4, Universal Boulevard and the Beachline, this premiere entertainment complex is easy to access for any Central Florida resident or Orlando tourist.
