About the Exhibit: “For this concept installation, the table represents a twist on the concept ‘having a seat at the table.’ We have the power to create our own table, beautifully complex, vibrant and colorful -just like our people. We No longer have to wait for an invitation to be seated at the table, we bring our own table-and chairs- to stand in solidarity.” – Marcus Blake

About the Artist: Marcus Blake is a Jamaican-born, Miami-based multimedia artist. His works include poetry, street art, fashion, performance, event coordinating and visual art. His interest, need and love for creativity began as an early teen. It was the greatest and healthiest way to express and interpret his life at the time, and it stuck with him until now. Creating is his life. His poetry expresses social injustices, personal experiences and the common struggles of everyday life. His street artwork reflects bright colors as well as intricately mixed vivid geometric patterns. He calls this method "Tapenology." Marcus is influenced by the sequence of nature and the tropical landscape, as well as the architecture of Miami. His work can be seen throughout the streets of Miami. Other works of art created by Marcus consist intricate collages and acrylic on canvas.

About the Property: Kimpton Surfcomber Hotel, a recently renovated art deco boutique hotel, is located in the heart of South Beach’s Art Deco District on historic Collins Avenue. With direct beach access in this fashionable destination, the hotel offers visitors a distinctively relaxed, yet worldly guest experience, within a “backyard bliss” design-driven environment. The hotel’s Daylife team has a curated active program to keep guests entertained throughout the season with activities such as yoga, meditations, South Beach bike tours, run/walk club and more.

The hotel just completed a full rooms and public areas renovation as a first phase of its renovation. The design is inspired by the South of France – playful, simple, clean, earthy. The full renovation is slated for completion by early 2021, following the renovation of its meeting spaces.

The hotel’s beloved The Vines Cabanas have also been completely reimagined with brand new furniture and fixtures. The Vines Cabanas at Surfcomber is a unique dedicated on-property space that provides guests with an elevated and private pool lounging alternative in one of their amazing and spacious pool-side cabanas. When walking into the pool-adjacent, gorgeous and super ‘Instagrammable,’ vine-adorned corridor of cabanas, guests truly feel like they are entering into a private destination within the hotel. This exquisite poolside experience offers guests ultimate relaxation, top-notch food and beverage services, pampering and privacy throughout their stay. The new design is crisp and modern featuring hues of grey, green, purple and blue that complement the iconic yellow rocking chairs that align the outside walking corridor. The wood paneled wall lining of the cabanas also give the spacious rooms a cozy and beach-inspired vibe. This fresh new look provides an over-all elevated and elegant design while still offering a comfortable lounging experience.
