Iconic Fort Lauderdale eatery also offering exciting new wines and wine flights

Lona Cocina & Tequileria, Fort Lauderdale’s hottest Mexican restaurant, has introduced a bevy of new dishes and cocktails. The restaurant, by celebrated Chef Pablo Salas, is known for eclectic, soulful Mexican cuisine and a top-of-the-line cocktail program, in a chic, yet funky environment, with sweeping views of the Atlantic courtesy of its expansive oceanside terrace.

Menu newcomers created by Chef Jorge Gutierrez include new appetizers such as the Octopus Tostada, “a la gallega” served on a crispy tostada with refried beans, caramelized morita onions, cilantro and aioli ($15); and Tortilla Soup with avocado, queso fresca, tortilla stripes, crema fresca and aged cotija cheese ($10). Flavorful new entreés include the Brisket Quesadilla, slow roasted with adobo peppers, white onion, melted Mexican cheese, cilantro and guacamole ($15); and Arroz Cremoso con Langosta topped with butter-poached lobster and truffle oil ($32). The new decadent dessert offering is Mi Corazon, Mexican rum spiked dulce de leche ice cream with raspberries and chocolate covered peanuts ($10). “The new dishes honor the unique authenticity of Mexican cuisine while also adding our own twist to highlight a variety of flavors, textures and colors,” says Gutierrez.

Also on tap are innovative pours that further cement Lona’s well-earned reputation as an imbiber’s paradise. New additions include specialty Margaritas a Su Gusto including Spicy Avocado – Dobel Diamante, avocado, jalapeño and agave ($13); La Tamarita – Don Julio Reposado, tamarindo and Lime ($15); La Fresita – Espolon Blanco, strawberry, lime, agave and sparkling rose ($13); and El Güero – Volcan Blanco, watermelon, jalapeño and lime ($12).

Lona has also introduced new wine selections, distributed by Consortium Wines, to its extensive wine list. Carefully selected to showcase global family-owned vineyards and suitably pair with Lona’s flavorful menu, bottles include Langmeil Spring Fever Chardonnay from Barossa Valley, Australia with hints of peach, citrus and cucumber; Map Maker Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand with aromatic tasting notes of green capsicum, lime zest, gooseberry and subtle passionfruit and tropical fruit flavors; and Terra Remota Ales Roses from Spain that offers a fresh palate, with good tension, and roundned with aromas of wild strawberries and berry fruits. Red wine additions include Giramundo Cabernet from Eugenio Bustos, San Carlos, Mendoza, that features intense and complex aromas and a hint of red pepper; and End of Day Cuvee, a red blend from Paso Robles, California, boasting aromas of black currant, dried cherries, tobacco leaves, cured meat and fresh ground pepper. To highlight these featured wine selections, Lona has introduced Wine Flights that include three 2 oz. pours of select Consortium Wines for $10.
