The St. Augustine Lighthouse celebrated 145 years on Tuesday, October 15, 2019.
This second St. Augustine tower was built from 1871 to 1874 and is topped with a first order Fresnel lens made especially for the St. Augustine Lighthouse in Paris, France. The first lighting was by Lighthouse Keeper William Russell on October15, 1874.
“The tower stands testament to a maritime heritage that is one of the foundations of our community," said Kathy A. Fleming, the Museum’s Executive Director since 1994.
