Those New Years' resolutions just got a little tastier. The Milk District continues to seek opportunities to reflect that it has become an inclusive and progressive area. One of the ways we are doing this is by launching a promotion called The Almond Milk District, which will promote and encourage vegan-friendly options in the District.
In addition to showcasing the District’s restaurants, food shops, and bars’ vegan food & drink options, the project also includes promoting salons’ products that are not tested on animals & contain no animal-based ingredients. The District has worked to share resources between our businesses to help them ensure newly added vegan options are indeed vegan, with training on preventing cross-contamination and how to spot hidden ingredients.
Zac Alfson, Executive Director of The Milk District, states: “As meat alternatives rise sharply in popularity across the country, it’s important to know that our local, independent businesses have long been leaders in this sector. By promoting these options, it lets those among the estimated one-third of Americans who are replacing meat with other options at least once a week know that they are welcome, and have plenty of choices, in The Milk District.”
The Almond Milk District promotion will primarily run January 1-31, to inspire resolutions for better choices for the New Year – coinciding with Veganuary, a campaign in the U.S. and UK that encourages vegan choices for the month of January. These days, more & more people are choosing more non-animal (plant-based) options, for many reasons such as: health, environment, worker’s rights, food safety, animal welfare, often lower costs of food staples such as beans & rice, and more.
There are over 15 participating businesses in the The Almond Milk District, including: A La Cart, Alchemy, ATJ Fitness, Dharma Fine Vittles, Drunken Monkey, Eola General, The Hemp Depot, MX Taco, Pom Pom’s Teahouse & Sandwicheria, Valhalla Bakery, and several other great establishments. Wandering Palm Food Tours will be offering food & drink-sampling tours of several of these participants throughout the month.
An online directory with more information on the items offered by each business, events throughout the month, and branded Almond Milk District merch, can be found at: https://thealmondmilkdistrict.org/.
Join us throughout the District in January and beyond for fabulous vegan-friendly options!
