SEBRING, Fla. (Feb. 25, 2020) - Visit Sebring/Highlands County Tourist Development Council (TDC) is launching an official Geotour titled, Sebring Area Geotour: Florida’s Hidden Gem.  The launch and kick off event will take place the weekend of May 1-3, which is the 20th anniversary or geocaching.  The Geotour will consist of 37 caches, two Adventure Labs and eight posters hidden throughout Sebring, Avon Park, and Lake Placid.   This will be the third active Geotour in Florida and only one of 62 Geotours in the world.

Geocaching is a free, outdoor treasure hunt.  A GeoTour is a series of geocaches that are designed to bring geocachers to a specific location and provides a "tour" of the area through geocaching. The caches often have a specific theme and many also have historical or location-related significance.  GeoTours offer a reward for completing all or part of the tour. The geocacher will usually provide proof on a "passport" document with a list of codes or stamps found inside the geocaches. The Sebring Area Geotour will provide a specially designed Geocoin for cachers who submit a completed Sebring Area Geotour passport.

Through this Geotour, cachers will discover the area’s unique history, vast outdoor adventures, unusual culinary delights and charming small towns.  By using a GPS or smartphone, cachers will be guided on this GeoTour’s four fun GeoTrails: Ranch & Harvest, Parks & Recreation, Historic and Art & Culture where caches are hidden among cattle ranches and citrus groves, museums and historical places, a variety of parks and numerous arts and cultural areas.
