In a move to enhance the outdoor experiences for residents with mobility impairments, during its meeting yesterday, the Volusia County Council approved the purchase of an EcoRover. This state-of-the-art mobility chair can navigate challenging terrains such as sand, gravel, and mud and even safely climb hills with gradients up to 20 degrees. It can also operate in fresh water up to 8 inches deep.

The acquisition of the EcoRover will better enable residents to venture into conservation lands and remote trails with rugged terrains. This initiative is not only an advancement in accessibility but also in community inclusion, allowing mobility-impaired residents, including outdoor enthusiasts and hunters, to safely explore the natural beauty of Volusia County.

Upon its arrival, the EcoRover will be stationed at Lyonia Environmental Center and available for public use at no cost. Detailed information regarding the reservation process and the EcoRover's readiness will be announced in the near future.

This initiative exemplifies Volusia County's continued commitment to enhancing outdoor accessibility for all, supporting broader conservation and recreation goals. It ensures that the community's natural landscapes are open and accessible, reaffirming dedication to community well-being and environmental stewardship.

The funding for the mobility solution has been made possible through a $10,000 grant provided by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Foundation, supplemented by $6,600 from County funds. For additional details about the EcoRover and its capabilities, visit www.ecoroverchairs.com.
